Alfred E. Mayer, 85 of Medway died April 10 in the Sunbridge Care in Milford. He was the husband of Marie (Snow) Mayer.
Born in Medway, November 14, 1923, the son of the late Rudolph and Mary (Maticic) Mayer, Mr. Mayer was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mr. Mayer had been a truck driver for Rosenfeld Sand and Gravel for over 31 years before retiring in 1985. He had previously worked for the Varney Brothers Concrete Company.
Mr. Mayer served in the Navy during World War II attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class. Mr. Mayer was a member of the Medway VFW.
Mr. Mayer was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed going to Cape Cod with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Alfred J. Mayer of Medway and James Mayer and his wife, Sandra of Shrewsbury.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Timothy Bush of Auburn and Jeffrey Mayer of Worcester.
He also is survived by his brother-in-law, “Babe” Mainini and “Bud” Hamm and his wife, Irene and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Rudolph and Edward Mayer and sister-in-law, Rita Mainini.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15 in St. Joseph’s Church in Medway at 10:00 a.m.
Burial with full military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
