Obituary

Mary Ann McConnell, 97, of Olyphant, died Tuesday in the Carbondale Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past two years. She was the widow of Joseph McConnell, who died in November 1957.

Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late John and Anna Matava Hansis, she attended Olyphant schools and retired from the Scranton State General Hospital. She resided in Olyphant for most of her life. She was a loving and generous mother and grandmother and loved her family more than anything else. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking and canning. She was a past president of the Olyphant Senior Citizens and was a regular on bus trips to Atlantic City. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Surviving are three daughters, Ethel Rusavage. Hillsboro, N.J.; Betty Karwaski, Dallas; and Linda Fitzpatrick, Jermyn; a son-in-law, Robert Karlavige; a sister, Helen Phillips, Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Margaret Karlavige and Helen Cox; a son, Charles; and three sisters, Margaret Fitzpatrick, Ann Keyasko and Katherine Heldak.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant, with the Rev. Thomas Muldowney officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
