John Guarnieri, a 25 year resident of Melrose, 16 year resident of Somerville and former resident of the North End of Boston, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Bear Hill Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield following a brief illness. He was 90 years old.
John was born in Boston on August 23, 1918. He grew up in Italy where he attended school. He came back to the United State at the age of 16 and worked as a laborer for construction companies and also installed boilers. He enlisted into the United States Army on October 31, 1942 and served his country during World War II. He was discharged on January 19, 1946 with the rank of Private First Class. John worked as a chef for more than 40 years at the former Warmuth Portside Restaurant in Boston and The New Deal Restaurant in Boston for over 10 years. He was a member of The Dante Club in Somerville and lifetime member of Harold O. Young V.F.W. Post # 2394 of Melrose.
John is the beloved husband of the late Olive L. (Cantelli) Guarnieri. He is the devoted father of John E. Guarnieri of Saugus, Marie G. Oliveira of Wakefield, Rita Murray of Groveland, Lorraine Guarnieri of Dracut, Michael Guarnieri of Quincy and the late Peter P. Guarnieri. He is the loving grandfather of 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
John's Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, WAKEFIELD/MELROSE line, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion Street, Wakefield, at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
