Martha Katherine Schroeder loving daughter, faithful wife and devoted mother passed away after a lengthy illness on April 3rd in Houston, Texas.
Born July 22, 1919 in Akron, Ohio to Earle and Edith Reed, Kay spent her childhood in Watertown, Massachusetts. She was always outgoing and caring for others. She made lifelong friends wherever she happened to be, even during her early years.
Kay attended both Allegeny College and Ohio University. It was at Ohio where she met Richard K. Schroeder and they married after his service in the Army during World War II.
They resided for a short period in Norwood, Massachusetts before moving to their future hometown of Winchester, Massachusetts.
It was here Kay raised her 2 sons Richard Jr. and John while establishing deep roots in the community.
She was very active in a variety of social and charitable activities during her nearly 30 years in Winchester.
Of particular focus was her ongoing involvement in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (the disease that claimed her son Richie in 1962) in both raising funds and building awareness.
Kay moved to Dunedin, Florida in 1977 after her husband retired.
She resided there until 2004, when she moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to her son.
She is survived by her loving son and daughter in law John and Regina Schroeder of Houston.
Visiting hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St, Winchester on Friday April 10th from 6-8PM. A Graveside service will be held in the Wildwood Cemetery, 34 Palmer St., Winchester on Saturday April 11th at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
