Katherine M. (Mahoney) Harmon, a 4 month resident of Tewksbury, 17 year resident of Arlington and formerly of Charlestown, died on Monday, April 6, 2009, at her daughters home in Tewksbury following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 87 years old.
Katherine was born in Charlestown on June 5, 1921. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Katherine was a homemaker most of her adult life, dedicating herself to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Katherine is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston firefighter Francis R. Harmon. She is the devoted mother of Marianne K. "Mimi" Selissen and her husband Jerry of Tewksbury, Alice P. Harmon Shovlin and her husband Thomas of Arlington, Francie R. Foley and her husband James of South Boston and Frank R. Harmon and his wife Paula of Charlestown. She is the cherished Nana to Scott Selissen, Jeanne Selissen, Daniel Shovlin, Robert Lind, Mark Lind, Patrick Harmon, Bernie Harmon, Brooke Marchesi and Erica Harmon. She is the proud Nana-Nana to Braedon Pincher, Ava Marchesi, Amelia Marchesi and Logan Harmon. She is the beloved sister of Mary Wiggin of Ipswich.
Katherine's Funeral will be held on Monday, April 13, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Due to Holy Week, Katherine's visiting hours will be on SATURDAY, April 11, 2009, from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
