Obituary

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Morris Stokes, 76, of Tifton was promoted to heaven on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Tifton's First Assembly of God. Mike McBrayer, Lamar Brooks, Fred Horne, Steve Edenfield, Dale Delk and Bobby Hobby will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be R. B. Delk, Thurman West, J. R. Wood, Orris Hobby, Sam Wood and the caregivers at Tift Health Care. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the sanctuary of Tifton's First Assembly of God at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2009, to lie in state until the hour of the service.

Mrs. Stokes was born on January 15, 1933 in Haskell, Oklahoma and was the daughter of Thomas A. Morris and Jerusha Neddo Morris, both deceased. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and devoted wife. She was married to Rev. O. L. Stokes for nearly 57 years. Along with her husband, Mrs. Stokes owned and operated Cornerstone Christian Bookstore in Tifton for many years. She was the staff organist for Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals for several years. Outside of her family, she had an enormous love for the church and served faithfully by her husband's side as they pastored three churches for over 50 years. For more than 25 years, you could hear Mrs. Stokes playing the organ as she and Rev. Stokes hosted a daily radio program here in Tifton and its surrounding areas.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by her husband, Rev. O. L. Stokes of Tifton; their children, Cyndi and Mike Delk of Tifton, Randy Stokes of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Rob and Janice Patrick of Tifton; seven grandchildren, Kadi Stokes and Connor Stokes of Shreveport, Louisiana, Natalie and Jason Slimp of Tifton, Michael Delk of Tifton, Brandt Patrick of Tifton and Brock Patrick of Tifton; two great grandchildren, Hope Goodman and Hagan Slimp of Tifton; three sisters, Wanda O'Donnel of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Wilma Kuhlig of Flora, Illinois and Ellen Turner of Tifton; and one brother, Tom Morris of Texarkana, Texas.
