Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (Eccles) (Rodenbush) Gassett, of Brockton died unexpectedly Friday April 3, 2009 at her home. She was 83 years old and the wife of the late Gerald F. Rodenbush. Born in Taunton and raised in Brockton, she was a daughter of the late Stuart and Betty (Taylor) Eccles and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Betty Lou was a 1943 graduate of Brockton High School and had attended Berklee School of Music. In 2003 she retired as a unit secretary after 38 years at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester. She had also been an organist at St. Patrick Church and taught music at St. Patrick School. Betty Lou enjoyed time spent with her family and loved to make them home cooked family meals.
She is survived by two daughters, Geralyn F. Dias and her husband Richard of Marion; Carolyn A. Phelan and her husband Joseph of N. Easton; six grandchildren; Geralyn Elizabeth Dias and Daniel Dias both of Marion; Patrick Phelan of CA; Erin and Matthew Phelan of both N. Easton and Christopher Phelan of Providence, RI.
Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte123) Brockton Friday at 10AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8pm.
