Devoted Mother and Grandmother
TEWKSBURY: Dorothy R. (Giles) McGillick, age 88, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Tewksbury Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was the wife of Matthew J. "Red" McGillick, who died January 22, 2004.
Born in Woburn on August 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence W. and Mildred Sarah (Shoobe) Giles.
Mrs. McGillick was raised in Woburn and Wilmington and attended Wilmington schools.
She was a communicant of Saint Dorothy's Parish of Wilmington.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company.
Following her marriage, she devoted her life to her family.
Mrs. McGillick was a former member of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164 Ladies Auxiliary, the Tewksbury D.A.V. Post # 110 Ladies Auxiliary and was past commander of the State D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary.
According to her children, she will lovingly be remembered for her tremendous cooking skills especially her tasty apple pies and fried chicken.
She is survived by two sons, Matthew J. McGillick, Jr. of Brookline and Richard P. McGillick and his wife Smita (Patel) of Rapid City, SD; two daughters, Ardis J. "Dee" McGillick-Colarusso of Tewksbury and Patricia A. Foley and her husband Neil of Winchester; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McGillick was the sister of the late Mildred Nadolney, Elsie Goss, Lawrence, Norman and Ernest Giles.
Calling hours Wednesday, April 8th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Thursday, April 9th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Pro Burial Service at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothy's Church, Main St., Rte. 38, Wilmington. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
