James W. McCarthy, age 78. Born in Fall River, son of the late Thomas F. McCarthy & the late Mary (Barrett) McCarthy. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was educated in Fall River schools and graduated Durfee High School, Class of 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force where he received the Distinguished Airman Award.
He loved his family, never forgot a special occasion, and was always there in times of need. He loved the simple pleasures of life; trips to the Cape, dining out, Boston sports teams, a good laugh, a well-placed remark, a sound nap, and the corner-piece of cake.
Although he was taken from us too soon, those who loved him will always remember: His head, which guided us; His arms, which held us; His legs, which stood up for us; His heart, which loved us; And his spirit, which will live on in us.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Olga. Two sons, Kevin J. of Fall River and Brian T. of Nashua, NH; and their respective fiancés Connie and Kim. A sister, the late Mary Dell Loper of Glastonbury, CT and a brother, the late Thomas F. McCarthy Jr. of Adrian, MI. Four grandchildren: Kevin, Kaitlin, Casey, and Jack; great-grandson Ben, and several nieces & nephews.
A Private Funeral Service was held with immediate family at the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME. Interment was at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund.
