Herbert I. Potter Jr.
...retired National Service Manager at Millar Elevator; 75
TEWKSBURY - Herbert I. Potter Jr., age 75, a Korean War Navy Veteran, and former manager for several elevator companies, died Sunday afternoon, April 5, at the Hammersmith Nursing Care Center in Saugus. He was the beloved husband of Aldine M. (Robichaud) Potter, with whom he would be celebrating their 54th year on July 16th.
He was born in Charlestown on November 9, 1933, a son of the late Herbert and Anna (Finney) Potter. He raised his family in Chelsea, MA and retired to Middleton, NH in 1998.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Haynsworth as a radioman.
His working career lasted 40+ years in the elevator business with B & A Elevator, Armor Elevator Co., Schindler Elevator Co and Millar Elevator Co. He was a member of the IUEC, International Union of Elevator Contractors, Local 4, Boston.
His passions included traveling with friends and family, attending Navy Reunions and wood working.
He was a member of the Rochester NH, Knights of Columbus, Council 2048, & Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8393, in Milton NH.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Potter and his wife Julia Volpe of Plano TX, Michael and his wife Ana (Serantes) Potter of Groveland, MA; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and her husband Kenneth Countie of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Daniel, Douglas, Benjamin, and Joshua Potter, Zachary and Lauren Countie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also grandfather of the late Kenneth M. Countie.
A Prayer Service was held Thursday, April 9, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Memorials to the Milton V.F.W., Post 8393, PO Box 250, Milton, NH 03851 will be appreciated.
