Louis J. Cangiano, 83, of Westport passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at home. He was the husband of Deolinda (Antunes) Victoria-Cangiano and the late Jaqueline C. (Mahon) Cangiano.
Born and raised in Barrington, RI, he was son of the late Nicolas and Maria (Campagna) Cangiano, and had lived in Westport since 1987 and wintered in Mims, FL. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Navy, earning the WWII Victory Medal, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal (with 1 Bronze Star) and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal (9 Stars). Prior to retirement in 1988, he was a carpenter for International Chain in Providence, RI. He was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. Mr. Cangiano was a member of the American Legion Post 145 of Westport. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: Louis N. Cangiano and his wife Anna of E. Providence, RI; 5 daughters: Dianne A. Pinegar of Beverly, MA, Deborah Mazo and her husband Joseph of Barrington, RI; Susan Paroline and her husband Charles of Barrington, RI, Nancy Howe of Barrington, RI and Jacqueline Miller of AZ; a step-son: James A. Victoria and his wife Nancy of Swansea; a step-daughter: Judith Victoria-Alvares and her husband Ronald of Westport; 25 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Antone Cangiano, Joseph Cangiano and Carlos Cangiano, Mabel Conti and Nancy Icavone.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Tuesday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Providence.
