SALEM - Edward M. Stevens, 78, of Salem, husband of Alice Y. (Demeule) Stevens, died Friday evening, April 3, 2009, at his residence following a long illness.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Edward and Magdeline (Koscielny) Slivinski. He was a resident of Salem for most of his life.
Mr Stevens was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and held the rank of Corporal.
He was employed for 34 years by the School Department for the Town of Lexington and retired as head of maintenance in 1988.
He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 56 in Lynn.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tory Stevens of Essex, two grandchildren, Samantha Stevens and Taylor Stevens, both of Essex, one sister, Rosemary Markovitch of Chelmsford and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Slivinski, Helen Slivinski, Raymond Stevens, John Stevens and Florence Pezzulo.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
