Worcester - Edward A. Cote, 80, of 151 Fremont St. a World War II Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient died Thursday June 19 in St. Vincent Hospital - Worcester Medical Center.
Mr. Cote leaves his wife of 57 years Lucy R. (Ushinski) Cote of Worcester; two daughters Kathleen R. Richardson of Jefferson and Deborah L. Cote of Worcester; two grandsons; two granddaughters and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Cote is predeceased by a brother Paul F. Cote. He was born in Worcester son of Joseph and Rose (Beland) Cote.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. While serving Mr. Cote was a prisoner of war in Germany and his B-17 was shot down and Mr. Cote later received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Cote worked for 35 years as a tool and die maker for General Electric then for Telecron retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church, the West Boylston Harold Keith American Legion Post, Disabled American Veterans, Auburn Lodge of Elks and the Prisoners of War Association where he was a past commander. Mr. Cote was also an avid bowler, hunter and golfer.
The funeral will be held with military honors on Monday June 23 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 10 AM in St. Peter's Church 931 Main St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday June 22 from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
