Obituary

Sister Roseann (Rita) LaBounty, 69, a Sister of Mercy for 50 years, died Friday, June 27, 2003 at the Warde Health Center in Windham after a long illness.

A native of Keene, NH, Sr. Roseann was the daughter of Edward and Anne (Doherty) LaBounty of Keene. She held a BA degree in education from Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett, NH an MEd. from Keene State College, and an MEd. in Educational Technology from Boston College. She also pursued further study at Rivier College in Nashua, NH.

Sr. Roseann's experience as an educator included elementary, secondary and college level teaching and administration. She was a teacher at St. Mary, Star of the Sea School in East Boston, MA and McDonald School in Manchester, NH. She served as principal of Mount Saint Mary Day School in Manchester and St. John School in Concord, NH. She also taught computer courses at Mount Saint Mary High School in Nashua. in 1992 Sr. Roseann was named director of the Network Distance Education Program at Castle College in Windham, a position she held until 1997. As director, she accepted the Frances Warde Medal awarded to the Castle College Network Distance Education Program from the Mercy Higher Education Colloquium in 1995. From 1997 until 2003 she taught computer classes at St. Christopher School in Nashua. She also served as a member of the Manchester Diocesan School Board for 6 years.

Sr. Roseann was an accomplished musician and directed choirs at St. Mary, Star of the Sea in East Boston, St. John in Concord and Mount Saint Mary Day School in Manchester. She was also a member of the St. Matthew Ecumenical Dance Choir and directed a sacred dance choir at St. Christopher School in Nashua. Because of ther work with the children at St. Christopher's, a tree has been planted in her honor. The present yearbook was dedicated to her for her golden jubilee.

Family members include four sisters:Shirley Burt of Rindge, NH; Patricia Bergeron of Deene, NH; Frances Pruett of Hampstead, NH; and Janet Hadlock of Sparks, NV

Friends may call at the Sisters of Mercy, Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH on Monday, June 30, from 2-7pm. A prayer service will be held in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Sisters of Mercy at 7PM Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at 11AM Tues. July 1. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sister of Mercy, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH.
