Gladys Frances (Wagner) Mander of Medford, beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Mander, died at the Glenridge Nursing Center on Thursday evening, March 31, 2009. She was 99 years old.
Born in Victory, Nova Scotia, Canada, on April 27, 1909, she was the beloved daughter of the late James E. and Margaret (Kaulback) Wagner. Gladys was a graduate of Medford High School and also Fisher Business School in Boston. Mrs. Mander was lifelong resident of Medford as well as long time member of the West Medford Congregational Church. She was employed for many years as a temp bookkeeper and Secretary for Manpower. She had been an active member of the Republican Club and Rebekah’s. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of Scotia.
She was the loving mother of Gloria and her husband Floyd Webster of Newbury, Ernest and his wife Joan Mander of Sanford, FL and Marilyn F. and her husband Rev. John Hughes of Manchester-by-the-sea, devoted sister of Eva Wagner, Clara Weston, Dorothy Hodsdon, Robert Wagner and the late Beulah McCarthy, Alda Fraser, Margaret Green, Roy Wagner, J. Edward Wagner, Jr. and Richard Wagner. Gladys is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and was the cherished grandmother of the late Paul Webster.
A graveside service was held in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, Saturday, April 2, 2009, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. A Memorial Service was celebrated in the Congregational Church of West Medford, 400 High Street, Medford, Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 2 PM. Donations in Gladys’ memory made be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
