Obituary

James W. Bowers, Jr. 89, of Moncks Corner, widower of Mary Taylor Bowers, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at his residence.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Bowers was born March 12, 1920 in Charleston, son of the late James W. Bowers, Sr. and Jessie Brunson Bowers. He was a graduate of Estill High School. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy serving in the North Atlantic and South Pacific. He served in the Navy from October 1939 until October 1945 and served on Destroyers. After the military, he joined Chrysler Corporation as a mechanic and later retired in 1989. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. He was Deacon Emeritus at Ladson Baptist Church.

Daughter: Donna Bowers Barbeau (Michael) of Moncks Corner
Son: James L. Bowers (Barbara) of Goose Creek
2 grandchildren: MacAllee Jessilyn Barbeau of Moncks Corner and Rebecca Lyn Bowers of Columbia.
Brother and sisters: Robert O. Bowers of Hanahan, Teresa Lumbra of St. Johnsbury, VT and Zulene Edwards of Georgetown, SC
He was predeceased by his brother: Lawrence E. Bowers.
