EAST WOODSTOCK - Lewis S. Morse, 87, died Tuesday, March 31, in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam. His wife of 56 years, Jane S. (Shepard) Morse, died in 2005.
He leaves 4 children, Jeffrey Morse of Assonet, MA, Kathleen VanShoick of Oakham, MA, David Morse of East Woodstock and Gretchen Pohlman of Pomfret; 9 grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Emily, Grace, Erica, Mary Kate, Rebecca, Katrina and Heidi; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Stewart, Joseph, Arthur and Stephen Morse.
He was born on October 3, 1921, in East Woodstock at his family farmhouse, the youngest son of Arthur and Mary (Alton) Morse and was a lifelong resident. He attended Woodstock Academy and graduated from Williston Academy in Easthampton, MA.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. All five Morse sons were in the service at the same time.
Mr. Morse was a dairy farmer most of his life and was working on his farm until recently. He was briefly employed at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford many years ago.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 AM in the East Woodstock Congregational Church, Doctor Pike Road. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Donations in his name may be made to either the East Woodstock Congregational Church, PO Box 156, East Woodstock, CT 06244-0156 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA.
