Ewart Madison “Mack” Sirmans, 65, of Tifton died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Ken Sirmans, Rev. Jimmy Odum and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. David Hathorn, Rodney Alexander, Van Belflower, Russell Hill, Don O’Steen and Earl Henderson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Holanna Hunting Club, members of the Kurious Christos Sunday School Class of Tifton's First Baptist Church, Bell South retirees and AT&T retirees. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Sirmans was born on March 28, 1944 in Tift County and was the son of Cecil Sirmans and Evelyn Connor Hood, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Kenneth Ronald Sirmans. He was retired from Bell South and PBS&J and was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam from 1963-1965.
Mr. Sirmans is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marion Johnson Sirmans of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Monty and Melanie Sirmans of Atlanta; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Vickie Shaw of Berrien County and Debbie and David Lindsey of Berrien County; one sister-in-law, Elaine Sirmans of Aiken, South Carolina; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Johnson of Tifton; and his mother-in-law, Theatus Johnson of Tifton.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Hospice of Tiftarea or the building fund at Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
