GLOUCESTER: Leona I. (Ceurvels) McLaughlin, 80, formerly of South Boston, died early Sunday morning, March 29, 2009 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late John McLaughlin, who died in May of 2004.
Born in South Boston on September 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (McCarthy) Ceurvels. She was one of fourteen children.
She had been a resident of Dorchester for many years before moving to Gloucester four years ago to be under the loving care of her daughter, Kathie and son-in-law, Peter.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Leona’s family was everything to her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by seven children, Thomas, husband of Darlene Shea, Richard, husband of Patricia Shea, Frank Shea, Kathleen Shea, wife of Peter Hollis, Donna Feeney, John, husband of MaryRose McLaughlin, and Kevin, husband of Shelley McLaughlin, twenty-four grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Madeline, wife of Watson Petruzewitz, a brother, Richard, husband of Florence “Pinky” Ceurvels, her best friend, Linda Sweet and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Mark McLaughlin, two grandsons, Richard Shea, Jr. and Frank Shea, Jr. and her son-in-law, Paul Feeney.
In keeping with her wishes, services will be held privately.
