Mr. Robert William Griffin, a lifelong member of Medford and beloved husband of more than 57 years of Gloria A. (Gummeson) Griffin, died at the Woodbriar Nursing Center in Wilmington on Sunday, March 29, 2009. He was 78 years old.
Born in Freemont, New Hampshire, on April 14, 1930, he was the beloved son of the late Lester J. and Martha (MacBride) Griffin. Robert enlisted in the Army on August 25, 1948 and received his honorable discharge on February 7, 1950 from Camp Stoneman in California. While serving in the military he attained the rank of Private.
Mr. Griffin was a graduate of Northeastern University. He received his 50 year pin last week from King Solomon Lodge in Wilmington. He was also a member of the Aleppo Shrine and was the Past Captain of the Motor Patrol. Mr. Griffin was also a longtime member of the First Community United Methodist Church in Medford.
Besides his beloved wife, Gloria, Bob will be very sorely missed by two daughters and one son-in-law; Holly L. Quinn of St. Clairsville, Ohio and Lynn A. and her husband Scott D. Mackenzie of Tewksbury, five grandchildren; Shannon Pearson, Sean Quinn, Stephanie Quinn, Robert Sousa and Andrea Sousa and one great-grandson, Patrick Pearson.
His funeral service was celebrated in the First Community United Methodist Church, 55 Otis Street, Medford, Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
