Richard J McNamara Jr.
... father of 11; So. Boston Postal Annex; 84
TEWKSBURY- Richard J. McNamara Jr., age 84, the patriarch of a large well known family, died Sunday morning, March 29, at his Tewksbury home, surrounded by his loving family, and wife of 58 years, Ethel M. (McLeod) McNamara.
He was born in Arlington on June 10, 1924, a son of Richard J. McNamara Sr. and Alice (Regan) McNamara and raised in Somerville. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and served in the Philippines during WWII, where he was award the Silver Star and Purple Heart for gallantry in action.
Mr. McNamara was employed as a Postal Clerk at the South Boston Postal Annex.
He was a communicant of St. Dorothy's Church and a member of the National D.A.V.
He was the proud father of eleven children and their spouses; Marie and Roger Neal of Tewksbury, Kathleen and Robert Lane of Tewksbury, Joanne and Edward Kearns of Tewksbury, the late Richard J McNamara III, Arlene and Arthur Stratton of Merrimack, NH, Frank McNamara of Arlington, Teresa and John O’Neill of Tewksbury, Sheila and David Albanese of Hudson, NH, Stephen and Emily McNamara of Center Sandwich, MA, Michael and Cyndi McNamara of North Andover, William and Marianne McNamara of Harvard; thirty two grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; brother to Mary McNamara, Janet McNamara of Arlington, and David McNamara of Westford, the late Irene, and Edmund McNamara; and uncle of many.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, April 2, in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial with Army Honors followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorial donations to Merrimack Valley Hospice 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg. 9, Lawrence MA 01843, will be appreciated.
