Obituary

WORCESTER- Gabriel P. Cassery, 88, formerly of Dorset Street, a World War II veteran and a former business owner and operator, died Thursday, June 19, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

His wife of 38 years, Shirley A. (Lockhart) Cassery, died in 1980. He leaves a son, Gary P. Cassery of Milford; a daughter, Carol A. Surabian of Mashpee; a sister, Mary Quinn of Worcester; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. A brother, Peter Cassery, and a sister, Violet Saro, predeceased him. He was born in Drenova, Albania, son of Pandi and Evanthia (Kovachi) Cassery, and lived more than 60 years in Worcester. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Cassery owned and operated Berg's Photo Service for 25 years. Previously, he owned Summit Market and Gabe's Variety Store. He also worked about 10 years part-time at The Fair. He was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church and served several years on its parish council. He was a member of the Sons of St. Mary, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, in St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 22, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. (www.NordgrenMemorialChapel.com), and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, in the church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or donations made to St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
