William R. "Bill" Butler, an 11 year resident of Salem, New Hampshire and former longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Friday March 27, 2009 at his home in Salem, New Hampshire following a short illness. He was 89 years old.
Bill was born in Charlestown on October 28, 1919. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Commerce High School. He enlisted into the United States Army on October 5, 1945 and served his country during World War ll. He was discharged on May 5, 1946 with the rank of Private. Bill worked for Sears and Robuck Company for over 35 years and retired as a supervisor for the company.
Bill is the beloved husband of the late Hyacinth L. (Kinsley) Butler. He is the devoted father of Carol Tucker of Maine, Elaine Maher of Waltham, Jean Brown of Florida, Maureen Butler of Medford, Barbara Buckley of Whitman, John Butler of Florida, Michael Butler of Charlestown, Richard Butler of Dunstable, Mark Butler of Whitman and the late William Butler. He is the loving grandfather of 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of John J. Butler ll of North Reading, Gertrude Davis of Woburn the late Elizabeth Walsh and George F. Butler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bill's Funeral will be held on Saturday April 4, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday April 3, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
