Mildred E. (Lindgren) Carlson, age 91, wife of the former Ralph L. Carlson of Greenville, RI, died on 25 March 2009 at Greenville Health Center, Greenville. She was the only child of the late Axel F. and Agnes T. (Lindquist) Lindgren of Worcester, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Carlson graduated from Worcester Classical High School, and attended the Worcester Art Museum School, received two scholarships, and graduated from the Mass. College of Art in Boston, Class of 1940, where she majored in Advertising Design, and held a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
She was a member of the Greenville Baptist Church, where for many years she was active in the Candlelight Circle and Couple’s Club. She was also a member of William Winsor PTA, various Hearthside Bowling Leagues, Friends of Ballroom Dancing, Betsey Williams Chapter - Order of Eastern Star, and a Past President of Roger Williams DeMolay Mothers' Club.
Her husband was the former Meteorologist-in-Charge of the National Weather Service at Hillsgrove. They had lived in Norfolk, Virginia for four years during World War II, before moving to Rhode Island in 1947.
She and her husband were world-wide travelers, having visited all of the continents many times, were avid skiers and photographers, and were well known for having presented many slide shows of their travels.
She leaves two sons - Norman of North Scituate, RI, and Randolph of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Also a grand daughter, Kimberly Graham, and three great grand children - Victor, Joshua, and Kayla all of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Visitation to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Greenville Common, Greenville on Tuesday March 31 from 4 to 7 PM, and services on 1 April at 10am.
Interment will be in the All Faiths Cemetery in Worcester, formerly the New Swedish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions if desired, may be sent in her memory to the Greenville Public Library, 573 Putnam Pike, Greenville, R.I. 02828.
