Obituary

Candida "Katie" (Burgo) Barros, 85, of Rancho Cucamonga, California, formerly of New Bedford died Wednesday June 18, 2003 unexpectedly at home.She was the wife of the late Edward Barros.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Lomba) Burgo, she lived in California for the past sixteen years.

While in New Bedford, she worked as a stitcher for several years and then joined Onboard and C.E.T.A. as a community outreach liaison. She held several positions, including that of treasurer, while a member of the International Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford. In California, she was a member of the Abundant Living Family Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Barros, with whom she lived, and Dianne Gomes and her husband, Dr. Terrence Gomes of New Bedford; a sister, Priscilla "Pat" Gomes of New Bedford; seven granddaughters, Dr. Michelle Vinagre and her husband John of Acushnet, Raegen Garcia and her husband Cory of New York, Terianne Gomes of New Bedford, Leahni Boatwright and her husband Shawn, Corrie Ferreira and her husband Jose, and Anjolie and Joellie Siracusa, all of California, seven great grandchildren, and a son-in-law, James Siracusa. She is also survived by a niece, Brenda Figueroa of New York, and a nephew, John Gomes of New Bedford. She was the mother of the late Karen Siracusa of California and the sister of the late Theresa J. Ming, and Joseph Burgo, who died as an infant.

Her Homegoing Celebration will be held at 9 AM on Saturday June 28, 2003 at the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Friday June 27, 2003 from 4-8 PM.
