John J. Lyman – veteran

LONDONDERRY – John “Jack” Joseph Lyman, 79, died March 26, 2009, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center in Manchester, surrounded by his family following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Chelsea, Mass. on March 19, 1930 to William J. and Margaret A. (Healey) Lyman.
He graduated in 1947 from Immaculate Conception High School, Revere, MA., in 1949 from Bentley’s School of Accounting and Finance, Waltham, MA. And in 1962 from Northeastern University , Boston, MA. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He retired in 2006 from the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C. after many years of government service and a life-long career in banking/finance. He served as Town Auditor for Londonderry in the early 70’s. He began his career as a bank examiner for the F.D.I.C., then going to work for the S.B.A., Concord, N.H., People’s National Bank, Morristown, N.J., Arlington Trust Co., Haverhill, MA. and National Co-operative Bank, Washington, D.C.
Family members include his wife of 54 years, Esther Rygaard (Wind) Lyman, of Bedford, N.H.; a son, Willard J. Lyman of Salem, N.H.; two daughters, Laura J. Lyman of Dover, N.H., Paula D. Boire of Manchester, N.H.; five grandchildren, Michael M. Boire, Jr., Nicholas Lyman Boire, Christian Henning Boire, Tove-Ann Marie Boire and Anja Margaret Boire; and one brother, Carl G. Lyman of Westford, MA.
Calling hours were Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Peabody Funeral Home, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Parish 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Burial followed at the N.H. State Veteran’s Cemetary, Boscawen.
