Obituary

Paul P. Balcius, 87, of Chester, NH, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. Mr. Balcius was born in Lawrence, MA on January 15, 1922, a son of the late Julius and Bronislava (Boles) Balcius. He was a resident of Chester for over 50 years, formerly living in Lawrence. Mr. Balcius was a WWII veteran serving with the Merchant Marine, and was a P.O.W. in Italy after his ship was torpedoed. He was employed as a ships officer for Exxon Marine for 40 years, and was a member of the Exxon Annuitants. Mr. Balcius enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and golfing.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen E. Toomey and her husband William F. Toomey of Auburn, NH; his grandson, Michael W. Toomey of Auburn; his sister, Anna Paul of Michigan; his brother, Joseph Balcius of Methuen, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Constance L. (Davis) Balcius in 2007.
Calling hours were held on Monday, March 30th from 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian burial were celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Peter's Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn. The burial will be in the Great Hill Cemetery in Chester, in the Spring.
