Audie C. McIntyre, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, March 28, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. McIntyre was born January 26, 1918 in Laurens County to the late William Ebenezer and Mittie Pearl Alligood Culpepper. Mrs. McIntyre moved back to the community in 1945 from Vidalia where she attended high school and was an outstanding basketball player. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. Mrs. McIntyre was a Past Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her daughter, Barbara M. Cagle of Fitzgerald; son, Dr. G.S. McIntyre, Jr., of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Scott & Christy Cagle of Birmingham, AL, Christopher S. McIntyre of Fitzgerald, Cathy & Rodney Reese of Jacksonville, FL and Drs. Leah & Hank Cook of Fitzgerald; great grandchildren, Cortney Cagle, Brady Mims, Anna Cook and Samuel Cook; sisters, Vera Fountain of Gainesville, FL, and Elva Jarrett of Leslie; caregivers, Alice Register and Vivian Nichols both of Fitzgerald, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garlan Steven McIntyre, Sr., son-in-law, Cliff Cagle, daughter-in-law, Dottie McIntyre, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Blue-Gray Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1447, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
