Obituary

Muriel E. (Houston) Sanborn, 82, of Hudson, NH, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in the Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare Center. Mrs. Sanborn was born in Whitefield, NH on June 7, 1926, a daughter of the late Perley E. and Gladys E. (Smith) Edmunds. She attended Central High School in Manchester, NH. During WWII she left high school to study nursing and worked as an LPN for 25 years. At the age of 60 she received her G.E.D. Mrs. Sanborn was very active in the 1st United Methodist Church in Manchester and also had run a nursery school in Manchester. She was also active in RVICS (Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service) with her husband, Norm, traveling the US in motor homes volunteering their service in churches, schools and camps. Off the road they headquartered in the RVICS village in Smithville, TX. It was there she organized and managed a food pantry, delivering meals to the poor and elderly.

She is survived by a son, David Houston of Cedar Creek, TX, a daughter, Rebecca Roche of Hudson, NH, six grandchildren, Lon, Keith, Marla, Tanya, Eric and Shannon as well as seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Warren E. Houston in 1977, her second husband, Norman A. Sanborn in 1995, brother Rodney Edmunds, sister Beverly Warren and foster daughter, Gloria Sevigny.

A calling hour was held on Sunday from 11am until the time of the memorial service at 12p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. The burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry at a later date.
