Obituary

Kathleen M. “Kathy” Doyle died on March 24, 2009 in Boston, MA after a long battle with cancer. She was 56 years of age. Kathy was currently a resident of Foxboro, MA. Raised in West Roxbury, MA she later lived in Vermont for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Boston Children’s Hospital School of Nursing and Emmanuel College in Boston, MA.

Kathy’s varied nursing career spanned over 25 years. For a number of those years she was employed as a Pediatric and Adolescent Nurse at Children’s Hospital in Boston. In Vermont after several years as a Pediatric Nurse, her career changed focus to public health issues. She was employed as the School Nurse at the Floodbrook Union School in Londonderry, VT, where her primary focus was on HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention. She continued in this area at the Aids Project of Southern Vermont in Brattleboro and then as an Aids Planning Specialist at the Agency of Human Services Dept. of Heath in Burlington, VT.

She received the Meritorious Service Award for Outstanding Work as the community Co-Chair and Vermont Dept. of Health Co-Chair from the Vermont HIV Prevention Community Planning Group. In 1992 while working for the Floodbrook Union School, she also received the HIV/AIDS Service Award for Exemplary Service to people with HIV/AIDS from the Vermont Dept. of Health.

Daughter of the late Joseph F. Doyle Sr. and Marguerite C. (Starkey) Doyle, Kathy is survived by her son Adam Doyle of Foxboro, MA and her siblings Sheila Cancella of New Jersey, Margie Papadopoulou and her husband Nikos of Greece, Joseph Doyle Jr. and his wife Carol of Walpole, MA, Theresa Doyle of Dedham, MA, Stephen Doyle and his wife Patricia of Milford, MA and Leigh Hardy of Dedham, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 3 PM at the P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to service from 2-3 PM. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Kathy’s name to Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118.
