James H. "Nubbins" Clark, a retired Lieutenant on the Boston Fire Department and a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Sunday March 22, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford after a very long illness. He was 65 years old.
Jim was born in Boston on September 15, 1943. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Catherine's Parochial School and Charlestown High School. He recieved his bachelors degree from Boston State College. He enlisted into the United States Army on October 1, 1962 and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged on November 27, 1964 with the rank of Private First Class. He was appointed to the Boston Fire Department on August 22, 1973 and worked on engine companies # 11, # 12, and # 24. He was promoted to Lieutenant on February 3, 1988 and was then assigned to engine company # 4. He retired on January 31, 1992 after 19 years of service to the City of Boston. He was a member of the Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718 and The Halligan Club.
Jim is the loving son of the late William and Margaret (Haggerty) Clark. He is the devoted brother of Theresa O'Donnell of Charlestown. He is the loving uncle of Bernie O'Donnell and his wife Patty of Marstons Mills, Peggy O'Donnell of Winchester, John O'Donnell of New York and Kevin O'Donnell of Charlestown. He is the great-uncle of Jimmy Crowther, Maggie, Annie and Seamus O'Donnell.
Jim's Funeral will be held on Thursday March 26, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday March 25, 2009 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
