Anthony C. Brazil, 80, of New Bedford died on Saturday Jan. 5, 2002 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Virginia (Viera) Brazil,and son of the late Antone J. and Maria (Correia) Brazil.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mr. Brazil was formerly employed by the Acushnet Company until his retirement in 1982.He was a former member of the St. John's Forever Young Club. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and participated in the Battles of Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and the Po Valley. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra Oldham, and her husband Harry, of New Bedford; a grandson. Jared Oldham of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Marie Silva of Santa Cruz, California, and Evelyn Xavier of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Joseph C. Brazil and James R. Brazil.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2002 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedfordfollowed by his Funeral Mass in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM.
