Themis (Zannetos) Coggin, 75, of Framingham, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. She was the wife of Robert R. Coggin who died in 2007.
Born in Cyprus on March 10, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Soterios and Eleni (Louka) Zannetos. Mrs. Coggin came to the United States at the age of 18 and resided in Lawrence, Kansas for seven years. She later moved to the Boston area where she lived until moving to Franklin in 1964. She lived in Franklin for over 40 years until moving to Framingham 2 years ago.
While residing in Lawrence, she attended the University of Kansas, studying in the Fine Arts Department where she designed and created the costumes for many productions. She also enjoyed making pottery while at the university.
A dress maker for many years, Mrs. Coggin worked at the former Adrian’s on Newbury St. in Boston. She also worked at Longs Jeweler’s in Wellesley and the Gifted Hand in Wellesley where she was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for her window boxes.
A very active parishioner of her church, in the 1990’s, she helped found her parish, St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Mansfield where she was the recipient of the Metropolis of Boston Laity Award.
Mrs. Coggin enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Franklin Garden Club. She also taught adult education in Franklin. Themis loved to cook and bake and was instrumental with helping start Coggin’s Bakery.
Themis’ true passion was her family and friends. She delighted in entertaining and celebrating life’s events including travelling to her native Cyprus and reunions with family and friends.
She is survived by, three sons, Mark and his wife, Johnna of Westborough, Michael and his wife, Janice of Boston and Paul and his wife, Yulia of East Norwalk, CT and three grandchildren Nicholas and Alexander of Westborough and Kyra Eleni of Boston.
She is also survived by four sisters, Maroula Theodosiou and Kika Demetriou, both of Cyprus, Lucy Anthony of London, England and Nike Nionakis of Hingham and many nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Zenon Zannetos.
Her funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 26 in St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 West St. in Mansfield at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Franklin.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin.
