Gregory P. Bernardini, Jr. 59 died unexpectedly Saturday March 21 in the VA Hospital, West Roxbury. He was the husband of Lynne D. Charland.
Born in Haverhill and raised in Methuen he was the son of the late Gregory P. and Alice T. (Orcutt) Bernardini and a graduate of Methuen High Class of 1967.
He was Vietnam Veteran having served in the US Navy from 1968 – 1970, then transferring to the Navel Reserves until 1974. For his service he was awarded among others, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star.
Gregory enjoyed watching sports and was a loyal fan to all the Boston teams. He loved theatre and music, especially Elvis. He also loved traveling and the beach. However his greatest joy came from time spent with his family. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and treasured the memories of coaching his sons’ baseball teams.
All who knew him will surely miss him.
In addition to his wife Lynne he is survived by his children Eric Bernardini of Salisbury, Neil A Bernardini and his wife Kristine of Lowell, Ryan S. Thomas and his wife Jessica of Madbury, NH, Jennifer M. Bernardini of Whitman, his step-son Geoffrey W. Charland of Whitman, his grandchildren Brittany B. Bernardini, Joseph N. Bernardini, and Rachael E. Thomas and his brothers Scott Bernardini of Methuen, and Bryan Bernardini of Methuen.
Family and friends are invited to his service, which is to be held Thursday March 26 at 10 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 11 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow at 1:45 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours omitted by request of the family.
