Wanda (Godlewska) Hemingway, 91, of Springfield died March 22, 2009 at Wingate Care Facility.
She was the wife of the late John S. Hemingway.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Kosewski) Godlewski, she lived in New Bedford all her life before moving to Springfield in 2006.
Mrs. Hemingway was a communicant of Holy Name Church.
She was formerly employed by Acushnet Company for many years until her retirement.
Mrs. Hemingway and her late husband enjoyed dancing and travelling. She spent many happy hours playing Bingo. For numerous years, she had a card club and enjoyed playing cards with many of her friends.
Survivors include her son, John S. Hemingway, Jr. of Springfield, MA; her daughter-in-law, Diane Hemingway of Springfield, MA; a brother, Francis Kwiatkowski and his wife Pat of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren, Susan Hemingway, Sean Hemingway and his wife Elizabeth of Springfield and Amanda Hemingway and her fiancé Michael Grimaldi of Springfield; 3 great-grandchildren, Zoë, Max and Luna Hemingway, all of Springfield; several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Helen Bettencourt and Freda Cormier and the stepdaughter of the late Vincent Kwiatkowski.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25th at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Her family will receive guests on Wednesday morning from 9 - 10:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
