Amy Morgan Parker of North Stonington passed away on March 19, 2009 at the age of 77. She was the youngest and last surviving child of Arthur Maurice Morgan, and Helen Mosher Morgan. Amy was born at home August 4, 1932 in the Quiambaug area of Stonington but lived in her youth in North Stonington, attending local one-room schools. One of her teachers at the time whom she admired much and was a great influence to her was Marcia Thompson.
Amy attended Stonington High School one year. Due to failing eyesight she went to Hartford to Oak Hill School for the Blind. She graduated with honors from high school; she was employed by St. Francis Hospital for many years.
It was at this time she met and married her husband, John D. Parker III. After living in Canton for 29 years, they moved to North Stonington in 1991.
Amy was well known to so many as a superior culinary expert-queen of the kitchen. She was widely renowned for knitting prowess-making everything from mittens and hats for charity to very elaborate afghans which she gave to many. She was a brilliant conversationalist and her sense of humor was legendary.
She was very active in her church, having served in numerous capacities in spite of her blindness. Twice she served as President of the Local Relief Society (Womans' Auxilliary)
John and Amy had no children of their own but Amy leaves a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings; Ernest Morgan, Mildred Morgan Kench, Lester Morgan, Alice Morgan Chapin Reed, Robert Morgan, and Evelyn Morgan Dufilie. Her husband survives her.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1230 Flanders Road, Groton on Saturday, March 28th beginning at 9:30am, with a service immediately following at 11. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in North Stonington.
