Irene C. (Lopes) Meier, beloved wife of 61 years of George F. Meier and a resident of Medford, died at her home on Friday, March 20, 2009, following a lengthy illness. She was 84 years old.
Born in Lexington, Massachusetts, on March 12, 1925, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Irene (Pacheco) Lopes. Mrs. Meier was a graduate of Arlington High School, class of 1943 and was employed as an assembler for Raytheon for many years. She was also a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford for many years.
Besides her beloved husband, George, she will be very sorely missed by her four daughters and three sons-in-law; Kathleen M. Gregson of Clinton, Susan I. Keane and her husband Frank of Ramona, California, Maryann Famiglietti and her husband Gary of Sandwich, Judith M. Lambros and her husband George of Forestdale, one son and daughter-in-law; Stephen M. Meier and his wife Judy A. of Wilmington, one sister; Mary Carey of Mashpee, one sister-in-law; Sena Lopes of Somerville, eleven grandchildren; Patricia Gregson, Denise Lawton, Debbie Hobbs, Jonathan Healy, Sarah Healy, Mathew Keane, Christopher Keane, Nicholas Lambros, Michael Lambros, Erica Meier and Olivia Meier and eleven great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday, March 23, 2009, at 10 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118, High Street, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Sunday, March 22, 2009, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
