John M. Castanho, age 86 of Fall River. Son of the late John M. and Mary (Frias) Castanho passed away March 19, 2009. He was a lifelong Fall River resident and a parishioner of St. Michael Church. Before retiring he was Vice-President & Treasurer of Fall River Trust Co. and was later a Vice-President at Bay Bank. He was manager and treasurer of Santo Christo Federal Credit Union and was on the Board of Directors and a consultant until 2004.
He was a city native, a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and Boston University where he earned a B.S. degree in business administration. He later did graduate work in education at Bridgewater State College and has completed courses in banking with the American Institute of Banking.
Long active in community affairs, he has been treasurer of the Swansea Lions Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and for several years has worked for Catholic Charities.
He is survived by 2 sisters: Evelyn J. Castanho of Fall River and Hilda C. King of Swansea; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services prior to cremation will take place in the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Sunday at 8 P.M. Calling hours Sunday 5-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army 290 Bedford St. or Forever Paws Linden St.
