Obituary

Antonio “Tony” Maciel, 81 years, a 34 year resident of Brockton died March 18, 2009 at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Lina Maciel of Brockton. Born in Fafe Portugal, a son of the late Jose F. Maciel, Jr. and Gracinda da Silva.
Tony worked as a musician with the Portuguese cruise ships and in the old Portuguese colony of Mozambique. He immigrated to the United Sates in 1975 and worked at the Stride Rite Shoe company in Brockton. Tony was a member of the Luis de Camoes club in Stoughton and was one of the original founders and band director of the Banda De S. Joao band also in Stoughton. In his free time, he liked to play the piano and listen to his favorite classical music.

He is survived by two sons Silvio Maciel, and his wife Clarisse Maciel of Brockton, and Julio Maciel and his life partner Marla Santos of Wrentham; eight grandchildren Bruno, Shawn, Jonathan, Darren, Christopher, Ryan, Lucas and the late Ricardo and a great granddaughter Kaleigh Maciel of Florida.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass in Christ the King Parish/St. Colman Church at10:30 AM. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 PM. Tony was a life long diabetic and asked that in lieu of flowers or family contributions, that donations may be made in Antonio Maciel's name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11464 Alexandria, VA 22312.
