Obituary

Robert C. Morrison 86 longtime resident of Whitman died Thursday March 19 in Caritas Good Samaritan Hospital after a brief hospitalization. He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Virginia (Duplin) Morrison.

Born and raised in Rockland he was the son of the late William and Annie (Carey) Morrison, and graduate of Rockland High School.

Bob was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1942-1946, and was a member of the 426 Night Fighter Squadron. He was a lifetime member of the Whitman VFW Post 697, and the American Legion of Whitman Post 22.

He worked many years at the VA Hospital in Brockton, retiring in 1985. After retirement Bob drove school bus for seventeen years for the Whitman-Hanson school district, and was for many years the primary driver for the athletic teams at the high school and enjoyed watching his teams play.

He was an avid baseball fan, and enthusiastically coached for more than a decade in the Whitman Little League. He took pride in watching his “little leaguers” grow into productive citizens. In later years Bob was a loyal Red Sox fan, never missing a televised game.

Most recently Bob was the Vice President of the Whitman Council on Aging, and actively oversaw a program which assembled and distributed food bags to the elderly each month.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Patricia Morrison of Whitman, Joyce Blaine of Plymouth, David Morrison of Rockland and Robert J. Morrison of Whitman, his grandchildren Kelly Elliot of Rochester, NH, Jill Burns of Plymouth, Scott Morrison of Boston, and James Blaine II of Plymouth. He is also survived by 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis, William, Bernard, and Mildred Morrison and Helena Winiewicz.

His funeral service will be held Monday March 23 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday March 22 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the Whitman Council on Aging 16 Hayden Ave Whitman, MA 02382.
