Frederick A. Hannagan, 88, a resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lawrence on June 22, 1920, Fred was educated in the Lawrence Schools and served in the Navy during World War II. He Briefly worked for the Naval Reserve in a civilian capacity before beginning a career in administration with the Internal Revenue Service. He worked for the I.R.S. in Lawrence and Andover for over 30 years before retiring in 1975.
Fred was a member of the Rainbow Club of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish and the Senior Citizens of Methuen. Fred was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. He enjoyed travel, music, and old movies but most of all his family, which frequently gathered at his house on weekends. His greatest love was Stephanie (Stella), his wife of 69 years.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Stephanie who died recently on February 19, 2009. Fred is survived by his children: Fred Hannagan, Jr. and his wife Georgia of North Chelmsford, MA. and Robert Hannagan and his wife Claire of Deltona, Fla.; grandchildren: Tracey Hannagan DoRosario and her husband Amarildo of Lawrence, MA., Robert Hannagan Jr., and his wife Lisa of Bethel, Conn., Chad Hannagan and his wife Donna of Sandown, N.H., Michael Hannagan and Kristen Rosengard of Amesbury, MA., Jeffrey Hannagan of Lowell, MA., and Gary Hannagan of Chelmsford, MA.; great-grandchildren: Danielle Hannagan of Lawrence, MA. and Corey Hannagan of Methuen, MA., and Susan, Erin, and Patrick Hannagan all of Bethel, Conn.; great-great-grandchild: Angeliah Hannagan of Lawrence, MA., as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law: Rita McDermott Hannagan of Methuen, MA, as well as a brother-in-law: Edward Malek of Lawrence, MA. Fred was predeceased by brothers Edward and Wilfred Hannagan, and sisters Alice Hannagan Dorsey and Josephine Hannagan Scanlon.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA. Family and Friends may call on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
