Obituary

James M. “Snooky” Conway Jr. 85 resident of Whitman since 1950 died Monday March 16 in his Whitman home. He was the husband for 63 years of Geraldine (Schnyer) Conway.

Born and raised in Hanson he was the son of the late James M. and Silby R. (Brown) Conway and a graduate of Whitman High Class of 1941.

He was a proud Veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. For his Navel service he was awarded among others the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 5 Stars and the Philippine Liberation Theatre Medal with 2 Stars. He was a life time member of the Whitman VFW Post 697.

Snooky was the founder, owner, and operator of Conway Scrap Metal of Whitman which continues to run more than 50 years later. He served many years as a Commissioner of the DPW in Whitman.

After his retirement he lived in Florida for 13 years where he enjoyed swimming and golfing, before returning to Whitman in 2003.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Christine Maiorano and her husband Alan of Plympton, Maureen Jenner of Kentucky, Michael Conway and his wife Alison of Halifax, Marsha Conway of Rockland, and Matthew Conway of Bellingham, his grandchildren Jason Maiorano and his wife Mary of Plymouth, Jarrod Maiorano of Plymouth, Jamison Maiorano and his wife Michelle of Plymouth, Christopher Jenner of KY, James Jenner and his wife Suzie of KY, Elliot Conway, Gregory Conway and Katherine Conway all of Halifax and Stephen Miller of Rockland as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eugene Conway, Ruth Pluta, Evelyn Sullivan, and Donald Conway.

His funeral service will be held Friday March 20 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be held at a late date. Visiting hours will be held Thursday March 19 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Old Colony Hospice 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368
