MEDFORD - Eleanor (Zamparelli) Cataldo, age 70, a teacher in the Medford School system for five decades, died Friday morning, June 20, in Winchester, at home with her daughter after a seven month battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert Cataldo, who died in 1989.
She was born in Medford, August 29, 1932, a daughter of the late Mario and Grace (Zucarro) Zamparelli, and had lived in Medford the greater part of her life. She was educated in Medford schools and graduated from Tufts University, with a degree in education, in 1954.
She served as a teacher at the Tufts Elementary School in So. Medford from 1954 until 1962. She left teaching to devote time to her family, but returned to teach at the Gleason Elementary School in Medford in 1969. She remained active as a teacher until December 2002, when failing health forced to accept medical leave.She will be best remembered to her devotion to her family, her students, and the Medford school system.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Medford, and earlier had also served as a CCD teacher at St. Raphael's Parish, also in Medford.
She is survived by a loving daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Anthony Navarro of Winchester, two devoted granddaughters, Marija and Adrija Navarro, two brothers, Joseph Zamparelli, John Zamparelli, both of Medford, two sisters, Rose Quattrocchi and Mary Held of Medford, and many nieces and nephews.She was also sister of the late Andrew "Hawk" Zamparelli, Margaret Sacco, and Francis "Frank" Zamparelli.
Her funeral is Monday at 9:00 am. from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave, Medford, phone 781 395 0128. Funeral Mass Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford. Visiting hours Sunday 4 to 8 in the funeral home. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.
