..."Lou T" active Veteran; 79
TEWKSBURY - Louis T. "Lou T" Madden, age 79, a well known resident of Tewksbury and a Veteran, died peacefully Saturday morning, March 14, at his Tewksbury home, following a courageous four month battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Hamilton) Madden, with whom he had celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary this past September 29th.
He was born in Woburn, September 7, 1929, one of seven children of the late Thomas Joseph and Susan (Horton) Madden. He was raised in Woburn, but had lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury.
During WW2, he lied about his age and joined the Merchant Marines. Later, he re-enlisted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and served at Fort Hood, in Texas.
In his earlier years, he worked in Commercial Construction, and helped shape Boston's skyline. He worked as an attendant at the Bedford Veteran's Hospital, and later, worked in landscaping and tree removal.
Mr. Madden helped construct the D.A.V. Building on Pond Street, was a former member of the Tewksbury Lions, the Fr. Coppen's Council K of C in Tewksbury, the Wamesit Lodge A.F. & A.M., and the Billerica Rod and Gun Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews, and was the last survivor of his six siblings.
His Funeral Service was held Thursday, March 19, in the funeral home. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Cemetery, East Chelmsford. Memorials to honor "Lou T" to the Bedford V.A. Hospice, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730, are encouraged.
