Marie C. (Johnson) MacLeod 95 died Thursday March 12 in her Whitman home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Roy A. MacLeod.
Born and raised in Quincy she was the daughter of the late David and Jennie (Ellis) Johnson, and a graduate of Quincy High.
Marie was a graduate of Bridgewater State College, Class of 1934 with her Bachelor’s degree in education she taught school both in Quincy and Whitman. She retired from teaching at the Regal School in Whitman in 1973.
She was an active member of the community in Whitman. She was a past President of the Women’s Club and was Treasurer for 26 years, also a past president of the Whitman Garden Club, and the Whitman Visiting Nurse Association, and was active with both the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts in the town.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Methodist Women’s Group.
She was a member of and past Matron of the Eastern Star, Pilgrim Chapter #89, and past Worthy High Priestess of the Bethany Shrine.
She was a member of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society.
Marie loved to travel, and had visited Europe many times. She was also an ardent crafts person.
She is survived by her children David MacLeod of Florida, Bonnie G. MacLeod and Janice L. MacLeod both of Whitman, her three grandchildren Scott MacLeod, Melissa MacLeod, and Kimberly Forster, her 4 great grandchildren, her sisters Beverly Gill of Gloucester and Edith Driscoll of Taunton and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eva MacPherson and David, Vernon, and William Johnson.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday March 18 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday March 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
