M.W. “Buddy” Harper, 75, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, March 12, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9, Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Harper was born January 14, 1934 in Irwin County to the late Mose William and Lannie Kelly Harper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for twenty-three years. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. After his retirement from the military in 1974, he moved back to the community. Mr. Harper was a former employee of Elixir Industries. He was a member of the American Legion and Pine Level United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nell Y. Harper of Fitzgerald; sister & brother-in-law, Shirley & Ozelee McCook of Box Springs; brothers and sister-in-law, Jimmy R. & Sandra Harper of Ocilla and Raymond R. Harper of Box Springs as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a great nephew, Brandon Sheffield, brother, Vernon Harper and two sisters, Ada Harper Young and Diane Osborne.
