ELIZABETH "BETTIE" (CARMICHAEL) HEDSTROM, 70, a Hingham resident since 1993, formerly of Gardner, MA, died on Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Hedstrom was born in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated from Salem Academy in Winston-Salem and Queens College in Charlotte, NC. Prior to her coming to Hingham, she was a special needs teacher in the Gardner, MA school system. Mrs. Hedstrom was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church, the Hingham Ladies Club and was an accomplished gourmet cook. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She was the beloved wife of Richard C. Hedstrom of Hingham; and devoted mother of Heather H. Lapham and her husband James of Pembroke and Richard A. Hedstrom and his wife Jacqueline of Kingston. Grandmother of William C. and Benjamin M. Hedstrom of Kingston and Leonard R and Lucas J. Lapham of Pembroke. Also survived by her brothers; Robert C. Carmichael of Essex, VT and Richard B. Carmichael of Pfafftown, NC.
Funeral Services Saturday, March 14th at 10 AM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228) Hingham, MA 02043.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hingham Congregational Church or to the Oncology Unit of Faulkner Hospital,1153 Centre St., Boston, MA 02130.
The interment is to be private.
