Henry B. Reynolds, 83 years old, a life long resident of Lowell, died Sunday at his home following a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Madeline R. (Farrell) Reynolds who survives him.
Born in Lowell on November 20, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles T. and Irene (Barry) Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds received his education in the Lowell Public Schools and graduated from Lowell High School Class of 1942. He also attended classes at Lowell Commercial College.
During World War II, Mr. Reynolds served in the United States Navy as a Signal Man Third Class aboard the USS Orvetta IX. He also served in the Philippines and took part in the Invasion of Luzon receiving medals including the medal for Honorable Service, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, and a medal for the Liberation of the Philippines.
Mr. Reynolds was a well known furniture salesman and worked at the former Neyman Furniture Co. and at the Household Furniture Co. in Lowell until his retirement in 1987. He was a former member of the Chelmsford Elks, and was an avid tennis player at Shedd Park in Lowell during his mid-life years. Mr. Reynolds was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles T. Reynolds of Apopka, Florida, Thomas F. Reynolds of Christmas, Florida, and Robert H. Reynolds of Tewksbury; two daughters, Nancy J. Reynolds of Hudson N.H. and Martha A. Reynolds of Chelmsford; two grandchildren, Thomas and Robert Reynolds; a step-grandson, Garret West of Christmas, Florida; two sisters, Ann Reynolds and Dorothy Heller and her husband George of Lowell; a brother in law, Thomas Farrell and his wife Pauline of Dracut; a sister in law, Ruth Pentedemos of Tyngsboro and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Reynolds was predeceased by his son, John B. Reynolds who died in 1997, his daughter Barbara Reynolds, who died in 1968, and an infant son who died in 1953. He was the brother of the late Thomas F. Reynolds who died in 1998.
REYNOLDS- A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday March 14, at 9:30 am at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell. Relatives and friends invited. At Mr. Reynolds’ request, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Chatham Center, Suite 450, 29 Crafts St., Newton, MA. 02158 or to Saints Medical Center Spindle Fund, 1 Hospital Drive, Lowell, Ma. 01852.
