Nicholas K. Dokos, 85 years old, a life long resident of Lowell and a United States Navy Veteran, died Saturday morning at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Eufrosyne “Flossie” (Pappaconstantinou) Dokos who died in 1989.
Born in Lowell on February 21, 1924, he was a son of the late Konstantinos and Hereclia (Chianopoulos) Dokos. Mr. Dokos received his education in the Lowell Public Schools and attended the Peterson School of Steam Engineering in Boston.
During World War II, Mr. Dokos served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hall. Mr. Dokos reenlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and served aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox. For more than thirty years, Mr. Dokos was employed by the Colonial Gas Company as a Power Station Operating Engineer. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Lowell and a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
He is survived by a daughter and son in law, Elaine “Susie” Vlahakis and her husband Byron of Dracut; two sons and a daughter in law, Richard Dokos and his wife Patricia of Lowell and Michael Dokos of Dracut; five grandchildren Leslie, Leah and Nick Dokos, Joshua and Jamie Yafa; two great grandchildren, Tridon and Zaeli Yafa; two brothers, George Dokos of Nashua and Christopher Dokos of California and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dokos was also the father of the late David Dokos who died in 1986 and Charles Dokos who died in 2003 and the brother of the late James and Eva Dokos and Vasiliki DeFreitas.
DOKOS- It being the request of himself and his family, all Services will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA. 01701-4688. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. LOWELL.
