Methuen, MA – Sr. Cecile Gagnon, 92, a Sister of the Presentation of Mary order, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Residence St. Claire.
Born March 26, 1916 in Berlin, NH Sister was the daughter of Louis and Corinne (Picard) Gagnon. She entered the Congregation of the Presentation of Mary on February 11, 1945 in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec and pronounced her vows under the name of Sister St. Louis-Marie on February 2, 1948 in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.
Sister attended elementary school at Angel Guardian in Berlin, NH and high school at Sr. Regis Academy in Berlin. She received her. She received her B.A. in Education from Rivier College in Nashua, NH.
During her 61 years as a religious Sister she served her Congregation as an elementary and junior high teacher in Chicopee and Gardner, MA and in Augusta and Lewiston, Maine. She also assumed the position of local superior in Lewiston, Maine. In 2002 she transferred to Residence St. Claire and because of declining health she retired to the Sisters Infirmary in 2004.
She is survived by a brother Maurice Gagnon of Berlin, NH, a sister Mrs. Henriette Beaudoin of Gorham, NH, Mrs Juliette Plourde of Berlin, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. in the Presentation of Mary Chapel with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery Methuen.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at St. Claire Residence 209 Lawrence St. in Methuen.
